Agreed. I don’t give a shit about the humans in these films. They’re only there to look up, be scared, and get squished. Shitting their pants and running down the street is the extent of their involvement in the story.

I don't agree with that.
Most Japanese films incorporate human stories the right way.
And I actually remember characters from those, even secondary ones.

By the way, I had tons of fun watching "RAMPAGE".
It was a much better kaju film than this new GINO.

And it was great! Monsters were scary but fun to watch, humans were silly but fun to watch, action was kinda generic... but FUN-TO-WATCH. And most inportantly, I could clearly see what was going on, and understand what was happening on screen.

I'd love to see a Godzilla movie made from the same fornula.

I'd say worse, because in GINO14 they were playing it straight and actors were actually acting.
In this one no one acts, just makes faces and reads script.
Plus there's a lot of horrible teenage humor which is poorly mixed into dramatic tone.

Muricans just don't get it.
No one cares for human drama in this movies.
You need silly melodramatic characters for this stuff.
And you DO NOT make them part of the monster action. EVER!

. . .

I'm very dissapointed because I had high hopes after "Skull Island", which was a lot of fun (despite some issues).

That's unfortunate. Yes, American film almost a 100% of the time completely botches foreign institutions in regards to film. It's extremely rare they do it justice or do it better. I really think it comes down to who's behind the camera.

I've seen most of Shin Godzilla and I agree they made the human element much more interesting. They weren't just window dressing between G scenes.

As a casual Godzilla fan, I’ve seen most of the films but don’t remember the humans. I have a more typically crass American attitude toward the franchise where I just want to see the monsters wreck shit.

Not enough monster v monster. We only see, what 6 monsters and only 4 of them fighting. Still way to much human bs. Especially a family squabble being at the center of it. Eye rolling teenage girl avoiding absolute death countless times while others and city blocks are annihilated. Main guy initially doesn't want anything to do with this but ends up doing everything. Plus the monsters and human have surpassed the Voorhees Teleportation Ability.

I enjoyed what monster action we saw. Ghidorah looked pretty kewl.

Vs Kong is prolly going to blow as well. We know Kong will win. Though he should just get cooked by Godzilla's breath and new radiation blast.

Agree on Rampage, once they are all in the city, that movie is awesome.

As a lifelong G fan, I think I almost loved this one. It’s got its problems but I think it respects the mythos well. I even thought one specific scene was a wonderful callback to the original Godzilla film. I can’t decide which of the recent movies I like right now, because I still like the Garett Edwards film and I loved Shin Godzilla. Both of those I may be in the minority on.

And Rampage was good schlock.

I liked this one. It didn’t try to be the cool American version. It had quite a few throwbacks to the original. Loved the song during the credits haha

I found the movie good as hell, way more better than Edwards. I haven't seen a Godzilla film like this since 2003 and it wasn't cheesy crap like Final Wars (Cause King of the Monsters was WB's retelling without ALIENS). Sure there wasn't much fighting with other monsters, but I can see 3 more films from this, Kong vs Godzilla, Monster Island and last but not least Mechagodzilla vs Godzilla.

He was from looks like Atlantis, which I thought was interesting and Serizawa's death was very similar to 54' but rather than being the destroyer of mankind with the oxygen destroyer (which he didn't create in this but military did) he was the savior by healing Godzilla from the oxygen destroyer.

So sad to see this underperforming. Guess it’s Disney remakes from here on out

Im not sure what it is... I see I praise all over social media. Funny thing is though, my local theater made us use inside cash register than the box office (which all were closed).

I don't think the average movie goer is just interested in big monster films like they are for superheroes and Disney remakes. Godzilla is still iconic but it's pretty niche compared to other franchises.

Sadly, GvK is going to be the last of this Godzilla universe. I can see Toho continuing doing their own films though.
