This franchise lost its identity when RE4 became successful. RE5 tried so hard to one-up that game and had almost no real horror elements. It was mostly goofy shit. And then RE6 was a mess. I’d still take those games over RE7 and 8 though.

Capcom fooled us with REmake2, but showed how truly dogshit they were with REmake3 and RE4 looks to only be mildly better than REmake3. I’ve lost faith and interest in the games at this point. I don’t even know if I want them to remake Code Veronica. It would just be more dogshit to complain about.

Looking back on it, 2make is probably the best of the three for sure. I didn't feel that way months ago. 4make's gameplay is so fucking abysmal it completely wrecks the game with that alone.

There's things to like about it but the shooting, the main thing you're doing in that, feels like total shit.

I think visually Chris is fine in RE8 but he's got his super over the top angry personality from RE6 again, which I loathe.

They painted themselves into a corner with RE8's ending since they killed Ethan off, and apparently RE9 is going to be a direct continuation of it.

I mentioned before that I played that and replayed RE7 over the last few months and I misjudged them. Are they good RE games? No, not at all. But I can find enjoyment in them. But they reek of being divorced from the core series.

RE7 is pretty okay until you get to the boat, and the rest of the game crumbles. The boat stinks and the mines could've been way cooler and creepier and it's just flat.

RE8 feels even more distant from what you know as RE and nothing about it sticks out as "good." It's not a terrible game but it tries to be so much more than RE7 with upping the ante. It's a more straight forward action shooter with monsters. The monsters in it is much more diverse but they all stink still, except I do like the Soldats. The bosses in it are awful. I did like Miranda and her design, but I don't like the fact this game retcons the lore that virus experiment shit existed long before Spencer finds the progenitor plants in Africa in the 60s.

Marguerite in RE7 to me is one of the best bosses in the series. It's got that creepy survival horror factor from her look, she the hardest boss in that game, and I like it's a two level area you can fight her.
It's not a bad look, though it isn't really 'Chris'. Jackets are Leon and Claire's thing. Also I miss Roger Craig Smith, he was probably the only good thing about modern Chris. I'm heavily biased to him though.

RE7 is very much not RE, and fair point, I think the point was to be pretty different but it really doesn't have its own identity. And the few ways it sticks out from other modern horror games, it just...doesn't work I feel. The gross out stuff with the Bakers wore thin FAST. I also can't stand the slow pace, that is very much not RE. I still find some interesting things in the game.

RE8 was actually fun for me and I liked it. It does seem very much like FPS RE4 but a lot about it works. The castle was pretty good, and overall it had a good core gameplay flow. But it does feel up and down overall at times. The doll house looks so much appeal on repeat playthroughs, I do think the water area drags, and the factory did feel cool and had neat ideas. And I REALLY hate the retcon with Miranda and Spencer, holy shit. That just feels wrong. I don't think that adds anything but it certainly detracts. It feels weird with how the Winters storyline was meant to be away from RE mostly, but then they pull that. Also I don't care for Ethan, and this games' attempts come off as laughable.

They’re not Resident Evil games. They’re an amalgamation of all the most popular horror games with a few references to RE thrown in. It’s Resident Evil in name only.
I will always believe RE7 was meant to cash in on the FPS horror trend. It was a shame initially, Capcom pioneered the trend and then copied everyone else? I will say, at least the game wasn't terrible and RE8 was pretty close for RE standards. Especially since know have an official third person mode for it.

Been playing the RE1 HD project. It's nice, but there's a lot of pastel blob objects like the RE2-3 mods and Jill has a mustache in certain light.

There's a lot of camera angles in this I've never seen before. Probably because I never played the vanilla RE1 at length and it's always been director's cut.

There’s a lot of bugs to get worked out. I saw some weird masking issues with the second floor door on the west end of the dining room balcony. Otherwise it plays and looks well enough.

I’ve never played it with the original ost since I’ve mostly played the directors cut. This has the directors cut backgrounds but the original better music.
