I still vividly remember how much it scared the fuck as a kid. The first time I played it alone my aunt was sitting behind me on the phone since my cousins had PS1 way before I did. I played until Barry kills it and turned it off.

Then, I was pretty much good with the series. They couldn't figure out the water puzzle in RE3, and me, like a 12 year old had to figure it out for them.

I played RE1 as a teenager on the DS, and it still got me. I think the PS1 original holds up FAR better then most people give it credit for and I absolutely find a lot of value in playing it and REmake.

A lot of people played it backwards and couldn't fully appreciate just how much REmake improved on it. REmake plays with expectations a lot because they assume you played the original.

Since this was very early into the internet, my first real time seeing it was over a friend's how and seeing the opening intro and couldn't believe how realistic it looked.

I think that Christmas I got a GC and that. I had secretly opened it up and played it a little. I had to get the game used since it was sold out everywhere. My mom had to go out of state to get it.

I think so too with REmake, it is more easily available now compared to the original where I think the only way is the PS Store. I think it had the director's cut, specifically the Greatest Hits Dualshock with that new soundtrack.

I remember watching the remake on early YouTube, damn that intro. Incredible. I still remember thinking the game holds up even pre-HD remaster.

Funnily enough I did get a GC for Christmas around the same time REmake came out. But I was so young and didn't even know RE existed much or the REmake at least. Bless your mom for that though!
