I still never felt compelled to play any of those games. I played a little of the first and didn't like it at all.
I think the first one was fine at times, the gameplay was very bog standard though got better over time and I was surprised that Kratos and Atreus worked as well as they did. Some scenes genuinely worked well. It did feel like it thought it was deeper then it really is but it wasn't like Kojima's bullshit. It does feel like they were going way too far with being cinematic and judging by early videos, yeah that has to be the case. That said, I would have preferred a new protagonist and no connection to the old games mostly. Kratos's story was done in III, and I was satisfied (minus the hope shit).

It wouldn’t have been about the God of War though. Kratos is the literal God of War. I don’t think even Hella is on his level. So, regurgitating his story through her, or some other Norse mythology character, would have just been trash, quite frankly.

Personally, I think what they did was interesting. Having him drift away to a different land and time… it sets up some interesting stories. It’s certainly better than anything the MCU is doing right now. Holy shit.

Tyir would have been fine but overall, I do like where they've gone with Kratos's character. It's very much not the same Kratos in a few ways, but also is and Atreus is how you know he's different.

TBH, uh. Anything is better then what the MCU is doing right now.

Disney is finished. Not financially, since they have plenty of revenue. But they're just purposely putting shit out now just to spite audiences. Same as Amazon.

The character is way too different and the narrative ignores/retcons most Kratos' arcs and moments form old games. He looks and acts completely different to serve this new narrative and story, because these are part of SONY's soft-reboot aproach for the "new audience", not actual sequels.

He’s already huge in God of War 2018 though. If he was that tall, the Norse Gods wouldn’t be as intimidating. That is freakishly tall just so you know. For someone that is effectively human.

I think 2018 Kratos is already like a solid foot taller than an average man. So, going by that render, that would put Kratos from the previous games near the size of that naked abomination from The Predator film. And there’s just literally no way that’s possible.

I didn't realize he was supposed to be that tall.
He wasn't, it's just BS they've invented to show how much this new version of him is "more realistic".
He was as tall as regular male humans and skeletons in the old games.
Also, here's he next to his 8 years old daughter:

Kratos's height is something I was never sure of to be honest. I thought he was freakishly tall, which would make sense as he is not 100% human, but even some of his guest appearances are inconsistent with his size. So I don't really know. I can see them 'shrinking' Kratos or making him look physically smaller to make the Norse gods more intimidating, definitely.

It's like how Samus Aran is supposed to be 6"3 in every source of media, but every man in Metroid Other M is like a foot taller then her. Granted that game was trying to make Samus like a fucking Barbie doll.

Very good review.
Despite all the gameplay improvements the core design is still bad.
Despite new content and enemy variation the game still feels very boring and grindy.
Despite all the narrative improvements and better writing the story still isn't about Kratos.

"God of War" these games are not.

The kid’s voice actor didn’t do as good of a job this time around and there are some locations in the game that just feel ridiculous. Almost too cartoony and colorful.

In all fairness to Nicole, Isaac was 40+ and Nicole looked like she was barely 20+in the original. She looked much closer to Isaac's age in the sequel so I don't think that is nearly as bad. I also thought the Kendra GF line was a joke because in a way, that's almost 'worse' lmao. Everything else is kind of lol to me but also in that vein. Uh, why do that anyway.

I don't remember any mentions of any dates of birth in the first game. And while I agree that she looked too young when compared to Isaac's design in the original, they've made him much younger looking in the sequel. He def wasn't 43 if we are to take his redesign from DS2.

And if I have to take all the official dates for granted then Ellie is 18 years younger than Isaac and 8 years younger than Nicole, yet she was a love interest in two games. There's no real reason not to make Nicole look like she's in her late 20's.

Been reading a lot that The Callisto Protocol is a pile of rehashed Dead Space shit but done poorly.

Supposedly, the patch they just came out with fixed a lot of technical issues. The only things they can’t really fix right now are the save system and the over bloated combat. They went a little too hard with it and it kind of ruins the horror element of it all.

Other than being a third person game with an inventory system where you fight mutated humans in a futuristic setting, it has nothing in common with "Dead Space". It's not a survival horror because the combat is fast action oriented, plus they feed you tons of resources so the inventory management is non-existent. Very little enemy variation due to how combat system is designed around fighting human-like monsters. Camera is very claustrophobic and works poorly in general, level design is an incredibly boring tight and straight hallway 90% of the time, little to no exploration. Barely any story or lore as far as I can tell.
