How is everyone feeling about the hobby right now? Prices on this stuff is insane. There are more and more 1/12 scale figures that are nearly the cost of 1/6 figures. Why spend that kind of money on something so small, when you can toss a little more into the pot and get the 1/6 scale version? Assuming you collect that scale, that is. I’ve entirely dropped anime pvc collecting. There is no way any of that shit is worth what they want for it.

Outside of Dragon Ball and Star Wars, my 1/12 scale buying has reached its final days, I’m thinking. I’ve collected all I really wanted. There’s not a whole lot left that I’d want. Maybe a few things here and there. Everything I still have on order is either Dragon Ball or Star Wars related. I have a few Marvel Legends on order, but even that is dying down a great deal for me.

There are still some Dragon Ball figures I would like—but I’m most likely making the Tournament of Power my stopping point, chronologically speaking. The recent movie doesn’t interest me and the Black Frieza and Moro stuff just seems like it’s getting silly. Could change my mind down the road, but as of right now, I think I’m sticking to my guns about what I want in my display.

As for Star Wars, I will probably always pick up the occasional Black Series figure from the line. But even then, I’m looking to heavily reduce what I buy. I have so much already.

That said, I somehow ended up pre-ordering a slew of 1/6 figures the last few months or so. I went from having a handful or so, to having well over a dozen. And this is after some of the previous ones actually shipped. 😂

I just don't think about it anymore. Hobby should be something you enjoy in your free time so if you gotta waste extra time and thoughts on it then you'll be better off without it. And if money's an issue then just stop buying stuff and see how you'll feel about it next year.

And I'm not counting the whole "war" thing plus sanctions. While they did help to look at things from different perspective it didn't really change a whole lot fundamentally.

Yeah, I imagine it does put a strain on things though, either way.

Money isn’t really an issue. Although, it will be when I move. I’ll have to pull money out of my savings to furnish my collection room, unfortunately.

As for the hobby, I honestly think it’s going to change soon. The average collector can’t keep up and that’s where they were making their money from before. Statue collectors aside.

I'm pretty good on collecting, a lot of my favorite characters and media have finally gotten some representation in some way. I can see myself parting with a lot, in fact atm I am. But some stuff like the Hot Toys Marvel...are most likely not going to last in my collection. I don't plan on ordering...too much more? Hot Toys wise, but games and anime may vary. And a lot of my favorites won't still get figures or many.

My problem is just space, because some figure boxes are unnecessarily big and this adds to shipping costs as well. I also find some companies these days just aren't quite what they were and the focus on obscure stuff while letting big name licenses go to waste is stupid. Costs are stupid too on some, the fact that some re-releases do not add (in fact some remove pieces!) anything but are still a bit more...isn't right.

I would definitely not have picked up certain figures if not for some sales or deals. My Marvel representation would probably strictly be Iron Man and Spider-Man, it was already a bit of a hard call on getting Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen.

Once I fill my moducases, that’s it. Collecting will be nearly dead for me. Those things are so massive that it takes up almost an entire wall. My collection room will be wall to wall. Going to have to put a gun safe in the bedroom closet too. I’ll be strapped for space by the time it’s all said and done. And I haven’t even moved yet. At least I won’t have boxes of shit stacked up anymore.

I don’t think I’ve ever had the desire to own any Mortal Kombat stuff. I’ve played the games quite a bit, but something about the property just doesn’t excite me enough to want merchandise. And thank god, because I already have enough lol.

I'm not huge on Mortal Kombat but god damn. That's so freakishly cool

I have a few Boba Fett figures on their throne now and it’s pretty badass when you get a figure like that, for sure.

I can't unsee the issue now, but that's what I get for being unfamiliar with MK. Ouch.
Such an ugly design with horribly toy-etic prorortions.
Thank the Lord I was smart enough to get Iron Studios statuette... while I still could.

However, THAT looks really cool!...right?

I really do despise their proportions on a lot of figures. Some are better than others. I think KOF they did right but for some reason they're taller than the MK line.

BBTS got Orochi and Paul Phoenix in. I'm just going to get Orochi for right now. He's $134 but he comes with more than a typical Storm figure so I get it. You're getting like $30 in accessories.

The fact that you have to pay that price is fucking ridiculous. Three or four years ago that would have been what… $80? $90? If that?

The Figuarts Endgame Final Battle Thanos was only $130 over here and that was with a markup and it being a web exclusive? And it being an overbloated Marvel license. There’s been a handful of the Marvel figures over $100 and even that is beyond fucking stupid.

It's rare for Storm to go that high so I don't get too pissed off about it. The Liu Kang is nearly $200 but it comes with a gigantic articulated dragon which is probably heavy.

Figuarts is drifting up to $100 for average figures. It’s getting absurd at this point. It’s bad enough Mafex hit the $100 mark two years or so ago.

I've had so many issues with Figuarts that I couldn't justify $100. I had to exchange a bunch at my Barnes and Nobles to the point of where I almost refused to buy some online. Broken joints, bad paint, other issues. I know this changed over the years but it was so insane.

SHF has no fucking business being that expensive. To me, weight is money. And those things are cheap Vietnamese plastic. At least Storm puts out solid figures. Yeah, their proportions are fucking wonky most of the time but at least you get what you pay for.

Their KOF line up to this point have been some of the best 1/12 figures I've owned. It's so weird they nailed the current four before Orochi, and each of them are spot on. The proportions, the accessories, the quality are equally stellar among them. MK doesn't even come close.
