In a new interview with ComicBook.com, McFarlane updated fans on the status of his film. Apparently, there are financial backers that he needs to impress with the screenplay. But what’s most surprising about his remarks is his admission that he’s willing to pull the plug on the whole thing if he’s forced to drastically alter his story.
“The money’s sitting on the sidelines ready to go, said McFarlane. “I just need to get everyone that wants to put in money to shake their hands to the same script. As you can imagine, everyone has a slightly different version of it in their head. You just go and trying to appease a handful of people while not giving in to what it is that I’m trying to do myself. Because if I have to change it too much, I’ll just walk away from it all.”
McFarlane previously participated in a Reddit AMA back in December and revealed that the film wouldn’t retell the character’s origin. Now, we have to wonder if this is one part of the screenplay that the financial backers disagree with.
In the meantime, Jamie Foxx is still attached to play Spawn alongside Jeremy Renner’s Twitch Williams. But it remains to be seen how long they’re willing to stay on board before filling their schedules with other projects.
He plans to write it and direct it but can't fund it himself. So he's going to tell the people he needs to finance it that it's "his way or the highway" even though he doesn't have any experience directing and the general public pretty much only knows the franchise from the first shit movie. He must have gone to the Trump School of Negotiation. As much as I'd like to see a good Spawn film, I can just watch the HBO animated series if this falls through.
As much as it would be cool to see
