I watched the first season of Gundam SEED last year during quarantine and thought it was fantastic and I just wrapped up Destiny earlier. I went into it thinking it wasn't going to be good from what many people say about it and yes it was incredibly flawed and I think it could of benefited if they didn't reuse so many animations over and over. It isn't until the 30th episodes does it feel like you're getting to see new animation and not just reused gifs for particular battle sequences.

Now I haven't seen many Gundam series, as I've only seen this and Wing. I think this is clearly better than Wing. While Wing is great for it's designs and cool cast, it's too involved with it's own space politics bullshit which is very wooden and uninteresting. I read the reboot Manga of GW not long ago and that was root canal trying to get through that shit. There's politics in this one, like with all G series, but at least this one isn't painful and it only gives you quick snippets without it being painful.

There's supposed to be a new Seed game I believe next year and there's going to be a sequel to Destiny as a film for the 20th anniversary of SEED. I don't know why in the 00s and beyond, I've read many people say SEED wasn't any good but I'm thinking they meant Destiny. I think at it's core it's problems are rooted in a new main character that is so abrasive you can't even root for him and he ends up being an unknowing villain and the entire new cast is completely in the shadow of the much better S1 cast. Another thing that bugs me is how fizzled out the ending of the show is. The final battle of S1 is incredible and fast paced which literally comes down to the wire while Destiny, the final battle is very meh and isn't even a challenge for the good guy to take out the bad guy.

I've really committed a lot of time to my Gundam kits and I want to continue you going through another series one after another. I'm probably going to go into Gundam 00. That has two seasons and a film. After that it'll probably be Iron Blooded Orphans. I do wanna see Turn A Gundam, Stardust Memory, and maybe Unicorn since I own the full armor kit which I purely bought since it's a clusterfuck of armaments.

The best Gundam shows are the original, Gundam Wing, G Gundam, Iron Blooded Orphans, Gundam Seed and Gundam Unicorn. The rest are honestly kind of meh. And the ones I listed aren’t perfect. They can drag on, just as Ghost in the Shell SAC did—which is still a fucking great show.

Digitally drawn animes all look wooden and shitty. DBS is a testament to that. 99s through 00s all look great.

The reason Super looked bad was because the budget was dogshit the first few seasons. The passion also wasn’t there. It eventually became enjoyable to watch. Not perfect, but on par with Dragon Ball Z—on average. Each show had their janky animation moments, to be honest.

As for DBZ, there were multiple artists that took over for Toriyama after the Frieza saga. That’s why the artwork was so inconsistent. I’d actually argue that, once they got past the Universe 6 arc, Super had more consistency in their artwork than Dragon Ball Z.

That’s not to say that those really well-drawn episodes of DBZ weren’t better than the vast majority of Super. It just didn’t last either the full episode or was tossed out for cheaper animation in each subsequent episode. They probably used a cheaper artist or cut production costs for every other episode or so—since it was a long running show and all.
