Not a continuation of the recent movie that bombed--the series will be a prequel that focuses on Roland as a young man. Sam Strike has been cast as Roland, while Jasper Pääkkönen will play the Man in Black/Randall Flagg. Jerome Flynn (Bronn in GOT) has also been cast but no word on the character he'll play.

No date yet for when the series will premiere, but it sounds like it'll start filming soon.

I don't need a prequel. I don't need...whatever the movie tried to be. Just adapt the books.

Hell, just adapt the first book and I'll be happy.

I agree. Adapt the books and be fucking done with it. LOTR that shit and people will fill the seats. This shit reminds me of Smallville and Gotham-style storytelling. We're not going to give you what you want, but we'll irritate you by doing some weird shit with the property anyway.
