I haven't watched this series yet. I was excited for it when they added Anson Mount as Pike, but it looks like he's only playing him for one season. Still, I love that guy so I'll end up watching this at some point.

This is absolutely THE worst thing that could've happened to Star Trek.
A nightmare that actually came true.

I've watched the first season. It's not bad but it's not great. Honestly better than Voyager or Enterprise. Maybe on the same level as DS9 depending on how you felt about that series. Will never hold a candle to TOS or TNG.

Season one was frankly better than it should have been with the production hell behind the scenes. It has some visible flaws but most people who hate it are really boxed in to a ruleset, and this show has no intention of being boxed into those rules.

Also ST-D is a reboot. They won't admit to it but it is. The continuity is so far in the rearview mirror people should stop looking. The reasons are a mixed bag of decisions based on artistic direction and legal barriers from CBS/Paramount split. The look and the storylines of classic Trek are owned by Paramount and CBS has to pay to use each of those ideas now. Even corporate cousins expect money from each other. It's cheaper to come up with new uniforms, ship designs, etc. So the show looks very different from the other Treks and you can expect that to continue with the Picard spin off, the "Lower Decks" series and every other cash in CBS's streaming service dreams up.

I haven't watched the second season at all, but did enjoy the first season somewhat. I don't feel like it's very "Trek", but as a show it isn't too bad. I'll probably watch the second season during the summer.

Just finished up season one. To be honest I liked it. I can in fact see some of the original series themes strung throughout it. They're just intertwined in a somewhat complicated story line. My main critique is this should have never taken place in an adjacent timeline with the Enterprise. It has it's own thing and didn't need to lean so heavily on tos.

Red Letter Media nails it. I won't say season 2 was unwatchable, but you can't make sense of it. There were so many examples of Deus Ex Machina that it might qualify as a Star Trek fan film. It's a big, glossy, amazing looking mess. Much of the time the audience only knows something is important is because the bridge crew is staring out the viewport or the ship is getting the crap blown out of it.

The writing is bad. There are 21 producers playing tug of war. As they guys said in the video maybe CBS is just keeping it until there's something else to carry the Trek banner on their channel (Picard). Discovery is not a show that's built to last.

I was pretty much done whining and complaining about it mid season one. It's not bad. Far better than the last two or three series we got out of trek. I'd say season two is a little more convoluted but Captain Pike is worth every second if it. The actor who plays him gets it and has a very old school feel to what he's doing with the character. It's a mixed bag but I won't condemn it anytime soon.

There's some good casting. I liked Pike as well. Many people are doing fantastic work on this series. The writers and showrunners aren't among them.

looks expensive
But sounds like a school project.
It's impossible to take seriously when someone or something is firing weapons.
The sound desing in this show is on par with the "writing".

Captain Pike is worth every second if it.

As much as I love Anson Mount and wish he was in more things... even his presence couldn't make me excited for the next episode. It's just sad that he didn't get to play in anything good since the last season of "Hell on Wheels". I hope he'll get more roles after such warm welcome of his take on Pike.

Same guy voices socialistic Superman in the upcoming "Red Son" animated film, mind you.
