It's too easy to fall into the trap about Wesker's portrayal in RE5. I however never had an issue with him in RE5 being a bullet dodging, borderline teleporter. The problem is the amount of plot armor put on the cast to prevent him from instakilling them. I feel they shouldn't of killed him off in the first game where he's the main villain. He could of taken a loss like in the CV ending, but he was unceremoniously killed off in such a pathetic way that don't make any sense, not to mention Sheva had no business doing it too.

I don't know how I feel about him returning, but they laid the groundwork for it through mind transference and cloning, and anything is better than the shit we've been forced to eat ever since.

Also, while I liked Douglas as Wesker, and he fits the megalomania version of the character within that game... I tend to think Richard Waugh still would of been better. He added such a sophistication to the character and really had a stranglehold on how to portray him in RE4 and 0.

People are used to the fan fiction the localization teams write in place of the true stories behind Resident Evil. There are games like Rev 2 where even the nature of the relationships between characters is completely different depending on the language the game is set in. I disagree with you FSLAR, I don't see why people think the stories of the older RE games are shit when they don't even know the stories in the first place

I'm yet to find people that are not surprised by the fact that G stands for Golgotha, but was called "God" virus, which in turn means super humans was the whole point since RE2 yet morons whine when Wesker dodges bullets, it was always meant to be that way

They hired actual writers for the older games, but after a while people at Capcom started writing the stories of the games. And you can tell the difference easily. The writing is extremely high level when you compare it to gaming in general, the bar is low, so yeah
As much as it pains me to say it, RE boomers that want the basic approach to RE to stay what it was will always been right in this argument. The series has deviated so far from the basic tenants of Survival Horror and RE in general that it's unrecognizable. Even RE2 2019 while pretty good is incredibly flawed and not a worthy successor to REmake whatsoever. If you say that in YT comments you get flamed since idiots in the fandom are so easily pleased.

The series back then was so in love with it's own lore and would always respect the previous games by not retconning but by building on what they left behind which culminated in CVX. I cannot stand the retcons of the old games they later did down the line. Like you mentioned, G virus is God, and that's that. I never even heard of that bullshit until you mentioned it. "God" virus makes unbelievable sense in the context of the series that the Tyrants were the ultimate organism that could only produce one out of ten million infected IIRC from Wesker report II. Thus G was a catchall that would inherently create God on earth since it rendered the individual virtually immortal.

Based and tank-controls pilled

Remember I'm talking in terms of story and story alone, the gameplay is another issue. And all of that is why I will always like the older RE games but I'll include 5 and even the Outbreak games in there too. When a series lasts too long it decays and corrupts just like anything that lasts too long, it's time for RE to get a huge enema to clean all this shit

The Outbreak games are criminally underrated and relatively unknown to the zoomer crowd. I'm thankful for the private servers still being available.

There never was or will ever be a more perfect concept for a multiplayer RE, they'd just have to update a thing or two and that's it. Yet Capcom is sitting on it. But I'm grateful that it was reanimated by the fans, I'll probably play it again some time soon

I couldn't agree more. Without a doubt the most fun I've ever had in the RE online experience. If they had mic support it would of been perfect.

Alyson Court said there was supposed to be a few dozen scenarios initially but they scrapped it.

The only games I will truly never like are Revelations 1, REmake 3, Operation Raccoon City and Dead Aim. I’m not even going to bother mentioning the sequels to RE6.

That still stings, we haven't even seen what half of the full game would have looked like. I've only seen a picture of a model for William and just one screenshot of a scenario that seems to take place near the Raccoon river, I don't think there is anything else out there

Oh yeah I forgot about William being a boss originally. I guess we should be thankful we got ten scenarios out of it. And as far as I understand they're all canon to a degree. They do get a bit clunky with being so much experimentation going on in RC, but it doesn't tarnish the core game plots.

3make is still the worst game of the series imo and that includes all the side story bullshit. Rev 1 is terrible but I'd still play it over a few games out of the main series.

Rev 2's only problem was going through Alex so quickly and immediately "killing" her off.

So I wasn't aware of how bad RE5 was localized. Not gonna deny that.
My problem with RE5 is how people make it seem it's far superior to RE4 and why. It's...not right to me, not like 'that's a wrong opinion', more like it's just insulting you know? My problem is how fans treat RE5. I can play it fine mostly. Additionally, my view is still taken from fans looking up the 'fan fictionalized localization' of it.
The most I'll say on RE5's story that I think we could mostly agree on is Sheva is a waste. That is saying something. I can actually remember some characters like JOSH better, and even Irving and Excella. If not, well that's just me.
I agree on REmake and RE2make, but I simply can't compare them. They're completely different, and go different routes. I do think RE2make set up a good foundation for the future....and by god, was that stomped on FAST. I'd like to see a tank based game again however though even that worries me.

Honest to god I think even the entire Raccoon City situation is unknown to the zoomer crowd. Do you know how many of my borderline zoomer friends I had to tell RE2 and 3 were in Raccoon City RECENTLY?!?!?

REmake 2 has the wheels come off as soon as you leave the RPD and they phoned in the rest of the game.

I used the think OB1-2 had some nonsensical scenarios but in hindsight it's better than anything else they ever tried to do with RC ever again. I prefer the scenarios that have nothing to do with labs or Umbrella honestly. Jack's Bar, Underbelly, Apple Inn, all the real world locations that are just about surviving and not Umbrella are great.

I never minded the sewers in 1998, it wasn't great but it didn't annoy me. The RE2make sewers are just awful, especially on Hardcore. Ada's bit was the only good part because of Mr. X. I did find the puzzle changing up a neat idea though. NEST was...eh? It zig zagged for me.

Would love to see OB1-2 stuff brought back, I appreciate expanding on Raccoon City like that. I thought RE3make's Resistance would be more like it and it wasn't.

I'm like this with Revelations 2 added in, RE6 as well. REmake 3 probably would be a 'am I in the mood?' sort of thing.

Resistance was a waste of resources, time and money. They should have put that into making REmake 3 better.

I would have preferred a new mercenaries mode, or that teasing of alternate paths.

Better yet just give that money to the team that made RE2make to work on RE3make.

Resident Evil 7 - 7/10. Being a bit generous there. It's fine, nothing more. An experiment that just should have stayed that since I do not think the first person helped, if anything it hindered. It was way too slow at points for me yet still wanted you to kill everything like every other RE. I'll probably get on Village soon since I picked it up cheap for BF, and don't really feel a need to reflect on RE7. I didn't find it scary either, besides being tensed up by Jack (Maguerite was a fucking joke....) and that was it.
Visually though I'm glad it exists for this alone, since I still think besides RE3make, the RE engine is fucking beautiful.

Horizon Zero Dawn (on PC) - 7/10

Surprisingly enjoyed it. A very fresh and unique postapoc concept, the world actually felt real. The story's finale felt very flat and rushed, but... eh. At least most of the characters are cool, with backstory and actual interactions with Aloy. It's not amazing but good enough for a bigger than life adventure.
Gameplay wise it was odd... I do like the fact that the only melee weapon you're given is useless most of the time, it makes perfect sense. But they could've made it so that most of the range weapons aren't very practical against human enemies and force you to fight up close... plus add more melee-related skills to balance their level-up system.
The grind for better gear started to annoy really fast, mostly due to how poorly designed the trade system is. I don't mind grinding as long as it's fun and intuitive. Without a doubt the worst part of the game.

Speaking of negative aspects... what's with all the pure black, white and asian people in all the tribes? It makes no sense considering the lore. The only explanation for this is that they've been breading inbetween themselves exclusively... which would suggest that everyone's racist... which isn't the case in the actual game. Either make everyone being mestizos of defferent kinds or separate tribes via skin color. As is, it's just stupid, nonesensical and broke the immersion in a lot of instances.

Oh, btw the version I was playing felt pretty stable. My rig is pretty outdated but I was able to run it in 2k 60fps maxed out. The year long wait was very much worth it.

I'm excited for the sequel. New bioms are great and new gameplay features look very fun. A lot of improvements over Zero Dawn. Hope I won't have to wait more than two years for the PC port, haha!

Horizon bored me to tears. Days Gone is fairly decent, after all the patching, but I just can’t get into Horizon. If I’m going to hunt, I’m going to throw on TheHunter: Call of the Wild and actually hunt. I’ve been fucking shit up in Russia.
