Over the weekend I redid a bunch of pipework to match the rough look of the model built in '75. "Red Jammer" was the prototype for the other Y-Wings built for production and no two models were the same. When this one was painted the Y-Wings were going to be part of Red Squadron. This model was never re-painted since it was boxed up and sent to Pinewood Studios to aid the set builders for Yavin IV.
STUDIO MODEL:
I re-worked all the pipes to match the available references, shortened the forward canons Notice the R2 is an unfinished dome. I need to build or print something to match that. The model is primed and I airbrushed a darker base coat to match the appearance of these reference images. I will lighten and darken areas before I get into the battle damage & weathering. More to follow.
Almost done. I have a couple of DK Lark markings that I'll hit but I'm hungry and this could use a bit of dry time. Tomorrow I have some panel lines to punch up and a bit of oil wash here and there. I also need to beat up those engine housing caps.
It looked so new a few days ago. I'm a worse spaceship owner than Han Solo.
I finished laying down the basic panels and now it's play time. Weathering, color correction, chipping, dremel work, sanding, streaks, streaks, streaks, streaks, streaks, streaks...
I don’t mind the CGI stuff, but it really needs to be made to look better. We still aren’t quite there yet. It’s missing an element that gives it the full illusion of realism.
Streaking, weathering and refinements. There are many different weights and looks for the streaks on the Falcon but this is pretty damn close.
I'm rolling an idea around in my head that I will give myself a week to get as far as I can. At that point I'll probably jump over to the Perfect Grade Falcon. I will still finish this one and see if I can't get a few hundred for it on ebay. I'll use that to pay for another project.
