I wasn't sure where to post this but I thought this would be the best place.

Any advice on how to deal with discolored fabric on a figure? I have a Hot Toys figure and it had patches on the shoulders. The patches had a yellow/brown glue and it discolored the surrounding area, which was white.

What would you recommend I should do? Should I get some white fabric paint and give a light wash to it? Is there some sort of low level bleach I should use do brush on?

No. Bleach will make the fabric brittle and it will tear or dissolve.

I can't tell you what to DO, but that is definitely a DON'T.

Just dealt with this on a recent custom. The glue works itself into the material and becomes extremly hard to remove. Truth is you won't be able to remove it all. At least I wasn't. You can put the shirt in boiling water to soften the glue and then peel some of it away. Do this repeatedly until you've got most of it off.

Only other suggestion is that if any discoloration remains use rite dyes color remover and see if that helps. It's bleach free.

You think clear nail polish remover would work? I've seen that stuff turn super glue into gelatin in 20 minutes. Plus it doesn't harm fabric.

Also baking soda soaking makes discolored whites get cleaner.

Haven't tried it.

I figured Bleach would be a no go. I'll post pics later on what I'm dealing with. Thanks guys.

I cannot remove the shirt since it's really form fitting to the body and I'm honestly afraid to take it off. I do have a spare shirt I can experiment with though.

Depending on the pics we can help better.

Baking soda and white vinegar has saved me from yellow spots on white fabric and sometimes it removes the stain completely

But vinegar will not remove the glue or residues
Thats when sewing white patches helps

@falcon which is why i mentioned clear nail polish remover. It literally turns super glue into jello like substance. However I used on plastic not fabric.

Plus since snake said shirt off a no go. Going to be hard to see what we got until pic.

Yeah uprooting the shirt seems like a really bad idea, especially since the patches are glued proper now. I mean, if it stays as is I won't worry too much about it, as it's not awful. I ordered the same shirt loose since one of the patches was missing, and it shared the same staining problem. The one I bought had stains way worse.

Nail polish wont remove the stain. Only vinegar with baking soda.

if you are unable to take it off, don't use anything like nail polish remover on it as it is basically acetone w/ other junk thrown in it... and depending on the body you have underneath, acetone has a good chance of damaging the body. acetone will dissolve superglue and such, which may help removing the glue if you take off the shirt, just watch using anything w/ chemicals like that if it is on the body.
