I saw a bit of gameplay and I noticed a massive downgrade compared to the trailer I remember, but I was expecting it. Though the game looks pretty fun, I might get in some time this month.

I've probably put close to 20 hours into it and I still have a lot of shit left to do and I'm not even out of the bottom region of the island yet. There is quite a few bugs I encountered, including one soft lock because the AI was stuck. I had thought the world was going to be pretty dead but it isn't and there's such a huge variety of set pieces but much of the building interiors are all the same.

It is a great feeling when you get better and you can take out a small platoon with a perfect. The Ghost mechanic of assassinating is pretty fun. I had thought it was going to just be like an Arkham game, but it's different enough to be it's own thing. It's kinda like Far Cry 3 meets Arkham since you can approach encampments any which way. Or, just challenge them out in the open.

I have about half the sword upgrades. It's interesting that each one that adds much damage gives you a different etching pattern on the blade.

And again, it's the prettiest console game I've ever seen. The old PS4 doesn't sound like a jet engine either which is surprising.

I have the pro. It doesn’t sound like a jet engine, but every game I played on my original PS4 did. Loudest system I’ve ever had. I think one of the Xbox consoles was fairly loud, but the PS4 takes the cake.

My only real gripe at this point is the color customization isn't what I thought it was. It's all set colorways and you can't be specific, it's preset and you have to buy them with flowers.

One neat thing is you can change what your sword looks like (hilts and scabbards) and there's close to ten variations I've seen so far but I mainly stick with the default and a fire version.

I haven't gotten off the southern region like I said but you can see the north from any mountain top and it looks enormous... I hope it's not just window dressing and you can't explore much of it... but the map appears to indicate you can. I know there's snowy regions and you can see that on the mountain chains.

So far, it feels like Red Dead with swords. You can kill animals for pelts but there's no skinning animations. You often find Bears attacking Mongols.

I still have to finish Red Dead Redemption II, Witcher III, Assassin’s Creed Origins (I’m on the Curse of Pharaohs dlc now) and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Might as well add Valhalla to that as well.

Actually, I still have so many current gen games to complete, looking back on it. Don’t even get me started on my PS3 backlog library. Completed most of my 360 games, so that’s all good.

The new systems don’t interest me at all. Until Final Fantasy VII Remake part 2 finally drops. I actually kinda hope it’s a PS4 pro game, to be honest.

I’m about to get the assassinate skill. So far, the game is pretty fun. I’d say not having a lock-on kinda sucks, but other than that, the game is a lot of fun. And between this, Spider-man, God of War, Last Guardian, Days Gone, Nier Automata, Final Fantasy VII, Red Dead Redemption II, Witcher III and the Uncharted and Last of Us games... you really got some great looking games man. Jesus.

I remember when the non existent marketing and one of the last trailers of this game killed my interest pretty much, I felt indifferent. But now I see that worked on the game's favor for me, because I ignored the videos this all looks new and interesting. The gameplay and the level of immersion looks near perfect for a game set in feudal Japan, I'm getting this game soon

That alone is enough to sell me on this game

I got to the Northern Territory. The area looks completely new compared to the old area since all the Forest look completely different. The amount of missions is very surprising. There’s some repetition but the locales all have different layouts.

It’s a way denser map than I expected. I was worried early on it would be too small.

No.

It’s far larger than any previous SP map. I think a sequel would be magnificent.

Oh and there’s three ways he can clean the blade, but they’re random. I just unlocked more clothing and colors.

I did a test with way points and determined the island is eight miles long. I’m over 20 hours in and still not bored. I still feel like I barely dented the game. There’s still plenty of side missions I didn’t do yet and they’re their own little sub plots since they are multiple parts.

The first assassination I pulled off was the single best assassination I’ve ever experienced—in any game. I leapt from a hole in the top of a stable and rammed my blade down into the spine of a crouching enemy, as he inspected the dead bodies of the two Monguls I had just ambushed inside. It went into that cutscene you get after your first dishonorable kill and made it that much more spectacular.

Another thing that has felt absolutely amazing is performing a stand off and killing the three initial enemies with ease, only to show the remaining few even less mercy—as they are swiftly parried and cut down in a single blow.

If you approach this game as a Samurai, you definitely have to let your opponents come to you. Use their own momentum against them. When I try to focus a particular enemy during a larger encounter, it usually doesn’t go the way I plan—because I’m acting too aggressively.

Another fantastic moment to experience is quickly dispatching a sentry and waiting for the nearby guard to pull out his war horn and then immediately dart out from the shadows and cut him down before he even has a chance to realize he’s dead.

Did you get any mythical weapons/ items yet? I have two. I like how there's plenty of Japanese folklore implemented into this and I assume there's an afterlife in this universe.

I played for about an hour, I got to the part where you have to follow the wind for the first time so I'm didn't even end the tutorial I think. But it's fun, this game has the most satisfying combat system I've experienced in years. And yes I'm taking the Samurai route I'll challenge everyone and brute force my way though the game, fuck that sneaky ninja shit.

I’ve died a lot through the game but now it’s to the point where I challenge the hardest encampments and might take one hit at most.

I only have one more to do and the southern territory is liberated. The customization is better than I thought, you just need to be patient and unlock more.

I use whatever tactics fit the situation. I’ll usually pick off archers and the outer patrols and move in and wipe out small groups. If I stumble upon a leader too early, I’ll just stab him in the back and smoke bomb him to finish him off and then challenge the rest of the encampment.

I wish taking out the commanders demoralized some of the weaker troops though. There’s a certain technique I do, from time to time, that makes even the big guys run in terror, after I kill someone with it.

I rarely challenge entire strongholds. I like to use a balance of both the samurai and ninja approach. It feels natural to me. I do whatever fits the situation as I make my way through each encampment. You can actually challenge certain groups in each location and not alert the entire horde, if they are far enough apart.

By the way, there’s nothing quite like annihilating an entire fortress of enemy soldiers and leaving the commander all by himself, only to come out of the shadows and challenge his ass to a duel. It’s disgusting how satisfying this game is.

bought this game on release day on a whim because I needed something to play and this game is really enjoyable. Something so simplistic about it. No HUD, just following the wind to a location. A lot of redundancy during side quests, but nothing that has taken me away from the game.
