This is the HIIT program I've been doing. I used to do it years ago but then fell into the trap of the stationary bike. It's pretty good and you get a good sweat out of it. Just gotta make sure you're doing the combos with intention to get the benefit of it.

I only trained two days this week and decided to take my week off a week early. I start back up tomorrow. Somehow I lost over a half a pound just sitting on my ass, so I must be in a deficit.

I kinda took off last week on top of the previous week. I couldn't get my mind right. Started this week kinda shitty too but I'll stay on track.

I somehow lost another pound last week and I didn't even train. I guess my calories are right on the money then since I didn't deviate from it really. So far I've lost about a solid 5lbs in about 3 or so weeks. My side fat is starting to vanish and I'm getting ab lines again.

Sorry for the late reply! The best thing to do to calculate your needed deficit is to add up what you’re getting now. ALL those online calculators are bullshit since if I went by those, I’d get fat. It’s always bloated numbers that don’t make sense, at least for me. I would say start at a 500 calorie deficit of what you get in total for a cut. You can always remove more, I would say trim 200 more until you get it where you start dropping a pound or so per week.

The best thing to do is get your body weight in protein, close to or slightly above is fine. You’re drinking plenty of water so even 1.5 per pound in protein is fine. It will help you retain your muscle while living off your fat.

I got down to 8% fat by doing a lot of HIIT for like 40 minutes. I was doing that Insanity at home program. I was pretty shredded from it. Try to keep your carbs at maybe 60% of your protein level to test the waters. I’m carb sensitive so I try to keep it low. For fat (I forget how I got the calculation, it was some trainer I follow on YT I think) you need to get between 30-60 in fat per day (I get 40)

This is my first real cut. I was really lean before since I started lifting after losing a bunch of weight first. After injuries and taking an extended break, I’m trying my best to look like I used to years ago.

I do a six day routine.

Sunday is Chest/Abs and cardio in the afternoon
Monday is Cardio once that day
Tuesday is Arms with cardio later
Wednesday is Legs with cardio later
Thursday is Back with with maybe cardio
Friday is Shoulders with maybe cardio

My meals are four solid meals and two protein shakes. You should drink a shake before bed. Never go to bed hungry. One scoop is fine with water. When I was trying for size, I’d put peanut butter in with it. It did help a lot.

Don’t get cardio crazy if your calories get too low, you don’t need it. I fell into that trap and you don’t lose anything. I had to add calories since after what I burn I would get less than a 1,000 a day and your body retains the fat since it goes into survival mode.

I’m 5’8, 168.4 at maybe the same body fat as you. This was the first week of adjusting calories for me. I’m always hungry but it’s gotten better and I can go longer without that urgent gotta eat feeling. I used to weigh in the 140s. I don’t want or need to be again. I just want to have noticeable lines. Having washboard abs would be nice for vacation but it’s not healthy to be like that all the time.

Weigh yourself once a week. I better be under 168 tomorrow. I’m hungry as I type this right now.

First off, no need to apologize for the delay, as you can see I’m even further behind myself. Life has been a bit complicated lately but that’ll probably be over by the end of the month and I’ll be around more often.

Second, as Thainitty said, you’re really putting in the work! It’s always inspiring to hear someone going balls to the wall. 5 pounds in 3 weeks is pretty impressive while maintaining muscle!

Also appreciate the write up. My biggest takeaways from what you wrote is firstly: don’t trust the online calorie calculators as that’s precisely what I’d been using.

Secondly, I think I was having too less calories because I was already burning so much from the constant boxing/MT combined with weight training, so my body was probably more inclined to hold onto the fat in starvation mode.

Thirdly, I’ve always wondered about the eating before bed thing, because I like to do that to avoid feeling hungry and being unable to sleep, but there’s so much mixed literature out there on that.

Good to hear it from someone who’s actually posting results, that it is indeed fine to do, and it’s just about net calories and not all the timing so much.

I’m definitely gonna implement these changes, and let’s see where I get in a month’s time.

Again thanks for the in-depth wisdom, it is indeed appreciated. Excuse the lateness of my reply again, it’ll be like this for the next little while.

That vid you posted is perfect as well as it’s a boxing routine so can only help get my performance up. I’ll try it out this weekend.

Been working out hard since March and took off last week and this week. Start back up Sunday and I'm going to start tapering my calories back up, closer to 2,000 a day.

I really need to fix up my left forearm. Ever since I got back into it, it's really stiff doing curls and now it's hurting every day now. It's not inflammation, it just feels tight. I've had tendonitis a few times and this ain't it. I've been doing stretches and massages but it hasn't put too much of a dent into it yet. Athlean X had a video on it and said it's from the tendons shortening after not working out for some time.

I had that before in my right forearm. It took a few weeks to get over it. I just had to change up my grip to fix it longterm

Forearm pain is what caused me to stop doing forearm focused exercises...my tendons are 100% wrecked, take care of yourself snake. You do any tribulus or collagen? Both helped ease my pain (they take time to build up though)

I've tried collagen in the past. I'm really not sure what it is. I believe it could be referred pain from my traps since their overly tight and caused me severe shoulder pain. It started up in my left forearm almost immediately getting back to working out when I did supinating curls. I'd like to think it was shortening of the muscles but it might be more than that. I doubt it's tendonitis.

The only isolation forearm workout I was doing was reverse curls and I think I'll stop that for the time being.

Oh yeah reverse curls are killer on my forearm and bicep and triceps tendons....also I would do wide grip pull ups behind my head I think that messed my neck and shoulders up too

I think I figured out my forearm pain. I doubt anyone would remember but I dealt with chronic forearm and elbow pain years ago that persisted for years. I got the same thing again but this coincides with neck stiffness and soreness and I had bad bouts of that in the last two years. I think this all stems from a pinched nerve that the specialists I went to for my arm never looked at. I've been doing dynamic stretches on it and my symptoms have been cut in half. One symptom was a chronic tightness in it, and I've read it's due to the never being irritated and the signals are fatiguing a muscle, which happened to be the forearm exstensors. It's strange since it felt tight, but the stretches I did on my wrist didn't make it feel like it loosened.

I might try to get back into lifting Sunday or give it another week. I still have a little weakness in my left hand, but I've had that for months now and only got really bad in the last few weeks. Now my pain and soreness has moved into my shoulder, which is a sign that it's centralizing to the point that's actually causing it (my neck) I've had three weeks off lifting and another week isn't going to make me lose any mass.

Snake, get an mri...I had the same the weakness got to a point that I could barely hold things with my left hand and lost most sensation in my left fingers...when I got my mri I had herniated discs in c5,6,7 and that is the point in your spine where the nerves extend out to your arms. I’m not saying that’s what’s happening to you but if it is it’s better to know now and not make things worse.

I did and nothing showed up in it. It's got to be tissue causing it. Stretching has helped. I was dealing with painful migraine headaches and touching parts of my trap deeply and certain stretching positions mimic the same thing.

Yeah I've been thinking about going to someone that has experience with treating thoracic outlet syndrome. You get pinched up in either the neck, the first rib, pec minor or shoulder and you deal with all this pain shit down your arm.

I decided to join Orangetheory fitness and see if I see any results... kinda pricey but having a trainer there will keep on track and make sure I’m working out correctly. Unlike working out from home or going to other gyms were I just spend my time on my phone or not knowing what I’m actually doing, lol.

I've never once went to a gym, even with one down the street. I prefer to do everything at home. Sucks not having a lot of equipment, but I got enough to get everything done.

I’ve tried a few gyms but nothing motivated me to go or be there longer. Some gyms were full with gym rats or d-bags taking over the equipment.

That's something that was always off putting, having to wait for equipment. I thought about getting a one day pass to just stare at people that don't know what they're doing.

Lol, that would be me... so decided to try Orangetheory and have a trainer teach me instead of looking like an idiot. At least my goal isn’t too extreme basically lose some body fat and toned up some. Tired of being “skinny fat”. Lol plus, it doesn’t hurt be active....
