Figured we need a general thread for anime figures and PVCs that don’t warrant their own thread.

BBTS just got the Figuarts Spike Spiegel in stock!

There’s also a big anniversary sale going on. Some decent discounts.

Jesus Christ, $240 for a 1/8 scale figure? No thanks. Even with the discount from getting both together, it’s still way too much for something this popular and of this scale.

For those that may have been on the fence with the Cowboy Bebop line you’re welcome. You may presume to collect.

Faye’s announcement pretty much confirms that they’re going to do the whole team. Was beginning to wonder if Spike and Vicious were going to duo it. Hopefully, they also get around to Julia.

It’s actually a really good anime. One of the best that’s ever been made.

Yowza, she will be mine. Can't wait for the rest of the team, though if it doesn't make it far, I'm glad they started with her.

They didn’t start with her. She just confirms that there is indeed a line, past the hero and the villain. Both Spike and Vicious are already out, technically.

Right you are! Damn, I really haven't been keeping up with anything in the 1/12 scale lately that I completely missed that. I've lost my interest almost entirely in that scale for whatever reason. Gonna have to collect this line for sure though

I’ve gotten back into it, what with 1/6 scale prices inching ever closer to the $300 range. Most deluxe figures are already knocking on that door. The main character of the next Star Wars trilogy will be around $300, almost guarantee it.

Now, the 1/12 scale stuff isn’t cheap either. It’s starting to hover around the initial price range of a lot of the early 1/6 scale figures. I’ve done a complete 180 from where I was at a few years ago. I was so turned off by the prices of 1/12 scale stuff (Mafex had finally hit $89.99) and Hot Toys were still floating around the low $200 range.

Obviously, things have changed. I started using HLJ again and Hot Toys prices jumped rather drastically. Also, the quality of the 1/12 scale stuff has gone way up, in my opinion—while 1/6 scale companies have gotten complacent and don’t see any real desire to improve or innovate, Asmus excluded.

So, I don’t know if any of you know... but anime figures (those by the likes of Megahouse, Alter, Good Smile, Max Factory, Flare and evening Kotobukiya) have just absolutely skyrocketed in price over the years.

I remember when I initially started collecting them. My first one was around $50 or $60 and I thought that was kinda high at the time. It crept up to $80 after a while and then $90 became the norm. Suddenly, I turn around and these things jumped to $120, then $150 and now they seem to be at around $200, bare minimum. They’ve been trying to match Hot Toys prices, I suppose.

However, prize figures haven’t seen that same type of trend. Prize figures, in many cases haven’t really gone up that much at all. Maybe by about ten dollars on average. There are tons of outliers though. The Ichiban Kuji line is roughly $40, compared to $25 for a regular figure. Some even go as high as $50 or $60, but that’s it. And that’s usually due to the size and scale of the figure.

Prize figures were a sub $20 purchase some 12 years ago. That varies, obviously, as I’ve illustrated. However, the quality on a lot of the stuff I’ve seen the past few years has grown leaps and bounds. Dare I say, it’s even comparable to what would have been a high-end anime figure less than ten years ago.

Collectors are getting bent over and taken to the bank. I’ve almost entirely stopped supporting Hot Toys and anime figure companies that continue to gouge. And toy lines like Mafex just keep going up. They’re raising prices every other quarter. How do you justify buying this stuff anymore? Especially if something breaks? With the amount of people out of work right now, you’d think stabilizing costs would be a priority, instead of jacking up rates even higher.

I mainly collect the DBZ prize figures. Grandista, Ichiban Kuji, and Master Stars Piece, though I'm not sure the latter is a prize figure line. I like all the 10-12 inch figures like that. I really wish Banpresto would branch out to other anime like Bebop or Champloo, though I'm sure it comes down to licenses like everything else.

As for the rising costs, it definitely makes me pick and choose what I really want, and not just order something because it's available.

Looks pretty good, but wouldn’t pay anything above $100 for it. I miss the days when I could divulge in anime figures for $60, $70, $80 and even $90 a pop. Would rarely ever see any above $100, much less $110.

Well I just bought a 3D printer, this resin is peanuts to buy 35 ounces worth of it. If you ever need a character made hit me up.
