So, I guess BBTS is just going to mark up everything that’s an exclusive and everything that’s classified as an import, especially a niche one like many of the anime pvc statues that come out each year. Why even bother ordering from them, in that case? Because they’ll be one of the few American companies offering said products “post release”?
They have really got to rein in the markups. A twenty dollar uptick for Mafex figures is bad enough as it is. They must not get a wholesale discount of any kind, when ordering those. For twenty dollars over cost, you can just get the thing imported yourself, by either Amiami or HLJ or any number of other Japanese retailers. At least with many Figuarts products, the prices seem a tad more reasonable—presumably because Bandai gives them more wholesale options.
I simply don’t get their angle. I use BBTS mostly for Figuarts and Hasbro stuff these days. I’ll get the occasional Mafex or whatever, if I can’t get it anywhere else except ScalperBay. However, even their Hasbro stuff is getting costly now. Almost $25 for a $20 retail figure? Come on guys. What is going on with you?
The thing that irked me today was seeing a $90+ markup for Mythra and Pyra from Xenoblade Chronicles 2. That is flat out fucking absurd. And this isn’t the first time they’ve done it. They play fast and loose with all these anime pvc releases, when it comes to the surcharge. I don’t even have an interest in many of the figures they slap these huge prices on. I just find it disheartening that the biggest online toy company of all time dips so heavily into scalping territory.
And what is with all the goddamn NRDs? If it’s over $150 or $200 (and isn’t from a brand like Hot Toys), yeah... I get it. You need to protect yourself a little bit. They’re throwing NRDs on the smallest shit now though. I have such a love and hate relationship with BigBad.
And that’ll do it for my biyearly BBTS rant. Let’s hope they do better going forward. I still prefer them over almost any other site.
