Totally agreed. Also on the quirky characters, I like the darker tone in some spots but I feel like some of the older games got the humor and dark pretty well. People complain about Leon being so snarky in OG RE4 but RE4 is so fucking insane that combined with Leon being experienced (yet still out of his depth reasonably), it makes sense. I know RE5 does its lore well, but it takes its plot so seriously - and that plot borders on RE4 levels of stupid - that unless Wesker is on screen, I was bored with the story. It was also too predictable, and I never found RE as predictable.Code Veronica Claire is the best Claire. Just as RE4 2004 Leon is the best Leon.
RE5 somehow has a better gameplay engine than RE4 and somehow feels worse. IDC about the plot in it either outside of Wesker. Spencer dying in his only appearance in a cutscene was dumb.Totally agreed. I thought that was just me with RE5's feel, it was so off. Like they took RE4 and put it on PS3/360 and didn't optimize its feel. Also same on Spencer.RE5 somehow has a better gameplay engine than RE4 and somehow feels worse. IDC about the plot in it either outside of Wesker. It's because it's just a straight action game and has zero atmosphere. On paper it plays far better than RE4. The aiming system feels more sensitive which allows more control and the tank controls are removed since you can now strafe in any direction. But it feels worse somehow.I thought that was just me with RE5's feel, it was so off. Like they took RE4 and put it on PS3/360 and didn't optimize its feel. Also same on Spencer.
I think they tried changing the movement but really half assed it. Characters feel like they move faster too and you're right on controls. The half assed part comes from how they didn't tweak or adjust the game properly. Which is why while RE5 is pure action, it doesn't really work like the many shooters of its time. RE4's mechanics are very good and the game knew its limits at times. RE5 just tried going bigger = better and it really didn't work. Ramp up the enemy numbers, the space, everything...but is it really fun? It's because it's just a straight action game and has zero atmosphere. On paper it plays far better than RE4. RE4 mechanics, specifically Leon's movement feels like it's locked into a grid and allows 100% control of Leon at all times. Everything since then feels like shit. RE4 OG feels good because it's tank controlled and he stops and turns on a dime.
